Porcelain Inlay and Onlay Dentists in Encino

We offer the most satisfying dental inlay and onlay restoration to fit your needs!

The Difference

An inlay dentist in Encino will create an inlay restoration that is a custom made filling made of composite material, gold, or tooth-colored porcelain. It is an indirect restoration (also called a filling) that is fitted and bonded in place to the tooth.¬† Inlays can be utilized to conservatively repair teeth that have large defective fillings or have been damaged by decay or trauma.  Inlays are the recommended alternative to any other conventional silver and composite fillings.  Also, they are more conservative than crowns because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of inlays.
Onlays are essentially identical to inlays with the exception that one or more of the chewing cusps have also been affected and need to be included in the restoration. An onlay dentist in Encino will create an onlay restoration that is made from the same materials as an inlay, they are an ideal alternative to crowns (caps) because less tooth structure is removed in the preparation of onlays. An onlay is sometimes also referred to as a partial crown is made in a dental laboratory and then is permanently cemented onto the tooth by your dentist.¬†

Popularity of Porcelain

Porcelain is mainly used for inlays and onlays because they have a close resemblance to the natural color and feel of a tooth.

Reasons For an Inlay or Onlay Restoration

  • Broken or fractured teeth.
  • Cosmetic enhancement.
  • Decayed teeth.
  • Fractured fillings.
  • Large fillings.

Sustainability

As with most dental restorations inlays and onlays are not always permanent and may someday require replacement.  They are highly durable and will last many years, giving you a beautiful long lasting smile.

The Process

For both an inlay and onlay procedure, it usually requires two appointments.
At your first appointment will include taking several highly accurate impressions (molds) that will be used to create your custom inlay or onlay and a temporary restoration. While the tooth is numb, the dentist will remove any decay and/or old filling materials.  The space will then be thoroughly cleaned and carefully prepared, shaping the surface to properly fit an inlay restoration.  A temporary filling will be applied to protect the tooth while your inlay or onlay is made by a dental laboratory.
At your second appointment your inlay dentist in Encino (or onlay) will have your new inlay or onlay carefully and precisely cemented into place.  A few adjustments may be necessary to ensure a proper fit and that your bite is comfortable.

Post-Procedure

You will be given specific care instructions and encouraged by your inlay dentist in Encino and/or your onlay dentist in Eninco to have regular dental visits to check up on the condition of your new inlay or onlay.
